Google’s Lookout app for Android is an AI-powered accessibility tool designed to assist users with low or no vision navigate their surroundings more independently. It uses built-in computer vision and generative AI to identify and describe objects, text, and scenes captured by the phone’s camera in real time and offers multiple functional modes:

·       Text mode reads printed or handwritten text aloud while sorting mail or reading signage

·       Documents mode captures and speaks full pages of text in over 30 languages

·       Explore mode identifies objects, people, and text in the environment

·       Currency, Food labels, and Find modes help users recognize banknotes, packaged goods, and locate objects with direction/distance indicators

·       Images mode / Image Q&A describes photos and answers follow-up questions using AI conversation

Co-developed with blind and low-vision communities to ensure usability, responsiveness, and accuracy, Lookout is available on Android 6.0+ devices and supports more than 30 languages.
