Better Jobs Ontario is a program funded by the Government of Ontario to provide eligible applicants with:

  • skills training for in-demand jobs

  • financial support

The Better Jobs Ontario program focuses on supporting access to training programs that take 52 weeks or less to complete. It used to be called Second Career but the government changed the name of the program to Better Jobs Ontario.

You can find more information about Better Jobs Ontario here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/better-jobs-ontario

This readiness course, originally developed by the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford, has been adapted for use in literacy and basic skills programs. It may be useful as a resource to deliver Better Jobs Ontario pilots through the 2023-2024 Skills for Success project. The object of the course is to help you source and prepare all the documentation needed for a Better Jobs Ontario application. It also focuses on helping you assess whether you have the skills and the commitment needed to transition to a new career.

The online course is divided into 11 modules. Each module contains:

  • An overview

  • Activities to be completed

  • Links to information and resources you may need to complete the course and your Better Jobs Ontario application (if applicable)

The link to access the online course is below.

Overview of the Beter Jobs Ontario - Community of Practice Group- Report

This commitee was comprised of learning networks partcipatng in the Beter Jobs Ontario initiative through the Skills for Success project. 3 meetings took place between November 2022 and February 2023 with a wrap-up meetng for all network initiatves at the end of March 2023.

The goal of the commitee was to

• create a communication strategy for regional networks and Provincial Support Organiza􀆟ons for Literacy (PSOL) to ensure transparency, collabora􀆟on and avoid duplica􀆟on

• share tools and best practices when working with stakeholders (for example, Ontario Works and Employment Services)

• create a common roll-up strategy to respond to the performance measures for the Beter Jobs Ontario deliverable

Regional networks varied in their prior experience delivering centralized assessment services ahead of this deliverable. Networks with a background in centralized assessment provided support, guidance and resources to assist partner networks. A variety of local models of centralized assessment were adopted to serve individual communities.
