Better Jobs Ontario is a program funded by the Government of Ontario to provide eligible applicants with:

  • skills training for in-demand jobs

  • financial support

The Better Jobs Ontario program focuses on supporting access to training programs that take 52 weeks or less to complete. It used to be called Second Career but the government changed the name of the program to Better Jobs Ontario.

You can find more information about Better Jobs Ontario here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/better-jobs-ontario

This readiness course, originally developed by the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford, has been adapted for use in literacy and basic skills programs. It may be useful as a resource to deliver Better Jobs Ontario pilots through the 2023-2024 Skills for Success project. The object of the course is to help you source and prepare all the documentation needed for a Better Jobs Ontario application. It also focuses on helping you assess whether you have the skills and the commitment needed to transition to a new career.

The online course is divided into 11 modules. Each module contains:

  • An overview

  • Activities to be completed

  • Links to information and resources you may need to complete the course and your Better Jobs Ontario application (if applicable)
