Diverse Imagery: Its Purpose and Importance in eLearning

Author(s):   eLearning Industry
Published:   2023
Funder:   Unknown

Annotation:

This insightful article demonstrates that using diverse imagery is critically important in education. Images, photos, graphics, infographics, and more give visual cues and context to learners. When diverse imagery is not present, learners receive a clear message about who and what is relevant and important in the learning environment. Learners notice that educators have chosen not to be inclusive.

People who develop curriculum/educational resources and teach, need to ensure that the images we

use in our education content reflect the diverse population in which we serve.

The article highlights key factors to consider when selecting diverse imagery. This includes:

• Age diversity

• Race and ethnicity

• Body types

• Gender or sexual identity

• People with disabilities

• Facial differences

• People using adaptive equipment and medical devices

This article also suggests ways to find diverse imagery.
