“Can You Make the Month?” is an incredible resource designed to educate people about the realities facing people living in poverty. Using a scenario-based approach to education, “Can You Make the Month?” walks participants through the difficult decisions people living in poverty must make each month about housing, transportation, food, education, health, and more. Educational information is shared relating to each choice made and stimulates the difficult choices that need to be made.

Participants can go through three scenarios: as a single person, as a singleparent family, and as a two-parent family.

“Can You Make the Month?” tracks your monthly budget based on the choices you make to get through the month. It tracks a person’s stress level based on these choices and an inherent lack of money. In the end, you learn whether you were able to “make the month” or not, and the impact of the difficult choices you had to make.

This resource was created in Alberta, so some of the programming is different compared to Ontario, but the learning experience is profound, meaningful, and highly relevant across Canada.

The goal of this unique and impactful resource is to challenge your perspective on poverty.
