Laubach Literacy Ontario (LLO) has developed a series of resources to support LBS agencies in increasing their capacity to support apprenticeship – with the goal of creating apprenticeship-friendly LBS services. There are four modules:

This
module provides an overview of how Get SET agencies can support adult learners
who have transitioned into apprenticeship pathways and need continued
development of foundational skills to succeed in in-school training. Grounded
in the Get SET Apprenticeship goal path, it highlights apprenticeship as a
strong pathway for learners and emphasizes how reading, document use, numeracy,
and digital skills impact success in technical training. The module positions
Get SET programming as a bridge between workplace experience and trade
certification, supporting persistence, completion, and long-term employment
outcomes.
Using
a structured planning approach, the module helps agencies identify and address
skills gaps, select appropriate assessment tools, and review curriculum to
ensure alignment with apprenticeship demands, including the use of authentic
trade-related materials. It also prompts reflection on staff professional
development needs to strengthen practitioner capacity to support registered
apprentices.
The
module encourages agencies to understand their local apprenticeship landscape,
map training and sector opportunities, and incorporate authentic documents into
instruction. It highlights wraparound supports—such as tutoring, time
management, financial literacy, digital skills, and referral partnerships—that
contribute to apprentice success. Overall, the resource provides practical
strategies and capacity-building tools to strengthen outcomes for learners on
the apprenticeship pathway. |
