 Fact Sheet #3: New Approaches to Learner Recruitment

There is a critical need to share learner recruitment challenges, strategies and new approaches amongst Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) programs. This is due to the negative impacts of COVID-19 on community programming, changing trends in marketing, the impact of new media as well as other factors. The ability of LBS programs to successfully recruit learners is critical to support communities and adults seeking to upgrade their skills. To assist LBS agencies with this important issue, Community Literacy of Ontario (CLO) created a research report and three accompanying factsheets.

 Report on Life Stabilization for Adult Learners in LBS Programs

CLO has researched and developed this report to give LBS agencies and other stakeholders insight into the importance of life stabilization and how it can be achieved for adult learners. The report will include insight into the successes, challenges and strategies used by LBS agencies.

 Soft Skills in Literacy & Basic Skills Programs: A Literature Review

To help understand the impact and importance of the five soft skills, CLO has partnered with Adaptimist Insights to review existing literature on the topic of soft skills training and its impact on adult education.

This literature review investigates best practices for incorporating psychoeducational programming into existing literacy programs. The objectives of the project are threefold:

1.      To identify the key emotional and social deficits most associated with contemporary literacy challenges.

2.      To make recommendations about specific soft skill remediations that could improve literacy at both the individual and group levels.

3.      To identify the mechanics necessary to deliver such programming in the most efficient way possible.

 Annotated Resources for ONCA Compliance - Supporting Community-Based LBS Agencies' Transition to Ontario's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA)

An informational resource guide on the topic of the new Ontario Not for Profit Corporations Act and the necessary changes required for LBS programs. This Annotated List of Resources supports LBS agencies to complete these required updates by the October 2024 deadline.

 Factsheets - Life Stabilization for Adult Learners in LBS Programs

CLO has developed three Factsheets to share successes, challenges, and strategies relevant to the life stabilization of learners in LBS programs. Based on the Report on Life

Stabilization for Adult Learners in LBS Programs, the Factsheets share information collected from community-based LBS programs from across Ontario.
