Do you have an interest in healthcare? This course uses Personal Support Worker as an example and goes through the responsibilities of a healthcare worker. It also explores the paths to take a certification course. Topics include Communication and Digital Skills, Body Systems, Safety, Numeracy on the Job and Cultural Diversity as well as the nine Skills for Success.

Numeracy at Work 6: Working with Properties

There are many careers and situations where you need to have good numeracy skills while working with properties. This course uses machinist examples. This module should take approximately 25 hours to complete.

Skills for Success in Early Childhood Education

Have you thought of working with children as a career? There are many opportunities for work within the Early Childhood Education (ECE) field and demand is projected to increase over the next few years. This course will offer you some knowledge on the topics and responsibilities that come with working with children and review the Skills for Success related to the ECE field. The course also includes ways to incorporate Indigenous culture and language into the child care program.

Digital Skills 1: Microsoft Word

This course is designed for learners looking to take a short, interactive, and self-paced course that will help teach them the basics of Microsoft Word. After taking this course, learners will feel more confident while using Word to create new documents, format text, edit paragraphs, change layouts, and more. Learners can take this course if they are new to Microsoft Word or want to improve/refresh their document-making skills!

Digital Skills 2: Microsoft PowerPoint Basics

Microsoft PowerPoint is often used for displaying slideshows and presentations at work, school, celebrations, and more! This course is designed for learners looking to take a short, interactive, and self-paced course that will help teach them the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint. In this course, we learn how to use PowerPoint, presentation best practices and Skills for Success, and how to create great-looking presentations! Learners can take this course if they are new to Microsoft PowerPoint or want to improve/refresh their presentation-making skills!

Digital Skills 3: Microsoft Excel Basics

Excel is a program that helps spreadsheet-making be more efficient and organized for work, school, and at home! This course is designed for learners looking to take a short, interactive, and self-paced course that will help teach them the basics of Microsoft Excel. In this course, we learn the key features, basic formulas and functions, and time-saving tools that Microsoft Excel has to offer! Learners can take this course if they are new to Microsoft Excel or want to improve/refresh their spreadsheet-making Skills for Success!

Office Administration Skills for Success

Are you interested in getting a job in office administration? This course is full of good information about working in an office environment - even if you are working from home! Many sections in this course introduce you to the nine Skills for Success. We also explore topics in organization, customer service, technology, confidentiality and stress management.

Baking Math

This course is an adaptation of a Live Class ‘Kitchen Club’ series, focused on reading and math skills required for baking. Learners will:

• Learn how to read and follow a written recipe
• Learn how to follow a recipe presented over video
• Learn how to properly identify and measure wet and dry ingredients
• Learn how to use fractions in baking when following Imperial measurements
• Review how to perform simple fraction math (adding or subtracting) when adjusting quantities
• Review how to measure time

Are You Ready for Grade 12 College Math?

Adult Education centres are sometimes contacted by adult learners who want to upgrade their Grade 12 math credit for college admission. However, because some of them have been out of high school for a few years, they might not remember the prerequisite math needed to succeed in the Grade 12 course.

This resource is intended to be a standalone assessment to test a prospective Adult Ed student’s readiness for Grade 12 college level math credit courses. It will include two separate assessments to test the Grade 9-11 prerequisite knowledge required for either MAP4C – Foundations for College Mathematics or MCT4C – Mathematics for College Technology.

Ideally, an Adult Ed centre would give the prospective student a link to the assessment and, based on the results, either register them in the Grade 12 math credit course (if they do well), or refer them to the LearningHUB for math upgrading (if they do poorly).

Identifying Canadian Money

This course teaches Learners about Canadian currency and how they use it in their everyday lives.
In this course, Learner will learn how to:

• count money, including coins and bills
• begin to manage day-to-day finances
• identify Canadian currency and its worth using the symbols and images displayed on each bill and coin
• use numeracy skills to help them count and keep track of money, to help prepare for employment that requires money-handling skills
